American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA)

The American Institute of CPAs is the national, professional association for the Certified Public Accountants in the United States. Its mission is to provide its members with the resources, information and leadership that enable them to provide valuable services in the highest professional manner to benefit the public as well as their employers and clients. Founded in 1887, the AICPA currently has 370,000 members.

CPAs are deeply concerned about Americans’ high financial illiteracy levels and are working to ensure they have the tools and knowledge to make informed financial decisions. The AICPA has two major initiatives whose goals are to improve the financial understanding of Americans: 360 Degrees of Financial Literacy and Feed the Pig.

360 Degrees of Financial Literacy focuses on financial education as a lifelong endeavor—from children learning about the value of money and saving their allowances, to adults planning for a secure retirement. The 360 Degrees of Financial Literacy website, www.360financialliteracy.org, focuses on what individuals need at each of the Life Stages. The Tweens and Teens Life Stage section provides resources on financial topics relevant for young adults such as guidance on managing a summer salary and setting financial goals. Follow 360 Degrees of Financial Literacy at www.360financialliteracy.org, on Twitter @360finances and on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/360FinancialLiteracy

Feed the Pig, the AICPA’s public service campaign with the Ad Council, teaches Americans ages 25-34 smart savings habits with Benjamin Bankes, the “spokespig” for the effort. Feed the Pig for Tweens, a component of Feed the Pig, is a free, math-based curriculum to educate 4th-6th graders on sound financial decision making. Students are joined by the Bankes Piglets who help them analyze their financial habits and create responsible financial plans using The Great Piglet Challenge, an online interactive game on the site.
