WHAT WE DO:
The American Savings Education Council (ASEC) is a national partnership of public- and private-sector organizations committed to making saving and retirement planning a priority for all Americans. ASEC seeks to leverage the power of all its partners through the free flow of information and broad dissemination of the educational materials developed by all partners. ASEC is a program of the Employee Benefit Research Institute, Education and Research Fund (EBRI-ERF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (www.ebri.org). ASEC does not lobby or take positions on public policy proposals. Financial education information and materials are available at the ASEC Web site: Choose to Save®
WHAT WE OFFER:
The ASEC Web site www.ChoosetoSave.org was developed as a portal site for all individuals interested in finding savings and retirement planning tools and resources. It features both the print and interactive Ballpark E$timate® planning worksheet, in English and Spanish, to help all individuals take the first step toward success by setting a goal based upon one’s individual circumstances.
The Choose to Save® public education program has delivered savings education to the public through radio and television since 1997. All radio and television public service announcements (PSAs) are nationally distributed on the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and Associated Press (AP) Network feeds, with world-wide distribution via the American Armed Forces networks, military bases and navy ships. Additionally, Choose to Save® PSAs and long programming, such as Mission Retirement, are currently running on the Starfish Television Network, a non-profit organization operated on the Dish Network. National distribution of the television PSAs is ongoing through NAB and AP. All CTS PSAs and related materials are free to the public. Such resources include:
ASEC Partners meet twice a year to network and coordinate programs. The next meeting is October 20, 2010.

This summer, ASEC has been actively engaging in community outreach at local festivals and fairs in the Washington, DC area. Thus far we have participated in Celebrate Fairfax and Safeway National Barbecue Battle, as well as federal government agency financial fairs. In September we will take part in Adams Morgan Day. These events provide us with a great opportunity to interact with the community, distribute packets of financial education resources from a variety of ASEC partners, and motivate to individuals who are struggling financially to Choose to Save. ® If you know of an upcoming event DC event, would like us to send you some of the fantastic outreach packets for distribution, or have materials you want included in the packets, please contact Liz Buser Turn on JavaScript!.
