Committees

The Illinois Jump$tart Coalition committees work together to achieve our overall goals and objectives.

Advocacy / Public Affairs Committee
Our vision is for all Illinois students to receive high-quality, effectively delivered, age-appropriate personal finance and economics instruction throughout their educational experience. Until this ambitious goal has been achieved, the Illinois Jump$tart Coalition's Advocacy / Public Affairs Committee pursues the following key objectives.  

  • To raise awareness among influential stakeholders about the scope and consequences of financial illiteracy, and potential solutions to address the problem.
  • To create new, and energize existing, literacy advocates.
  • To stimulate direct, local action to improve financial and economic education in Illinois.

Committee members are needed to help dplan, promote and conduct a newannual conference designed to accomplish these objectives.  The A/PA Committee will convene at least bimonthly, either in person or via teleconference, and will interface with members of the Research, Technology and Communication/Media Committees as needed.

Communications & Media Committee
The Illinois Jump$tart Coalition's Communications & Media Committee was established to provide Illinois Jump$tart members and the greater community with information concerning programming, research and policy of interest to the Jump$tart coalition as well as updates concerning Illinois Jump$tart activities and events. 

The ultimate objectives are: 

  • To ensure all Jump$tart members are aware of Jump$tart events and activities
  • To provide Illinois Jump$tart members, educators and residents with updates concerning relevant developments in financial education research, programming, and policy
  • To communicate Jump$tart priorities, activities and other relevant information to policy makers, media and the larger public
  • To increase awareness of the need for financial literacy and relevant developments in the field of financial education among Illinois residents

Committee members are needed to help draft newsletter articles, investigate relevant programming and research developments, format newsletters and communicate findings and newsletter issues to policy makers, local media, etc.  The Communications & Media Committee will convene at least bimonthly, either in person or via teleconference, and will interface with members of other ILJC Committees as needed.

Membership Committee
The Illinois Jump$tart Coalition's Membership Committee is responsible for recruiting new members, retaining current members and coordinating membership meetings that provide relevant education, useful information and a forum for networking.  

The committee's objectives are:

  • To increase Illinois Jump$tart Coalition membership every year.
  • To retain a majority of current members every year.
  • To engage the Membership in Coalition programs and activities.
  • To coordinate and host periodic Educational & Networking Meetings for Members.
  • To establish Illinois Jump$tart Coalition as a "must-belong" organization for people interested in financial literacy.

Committee volunteers are needed to help distribute membership information at events held for the financial literacy community, to reach out to individuals through other organizations who are invested in financial literacy, help plan and host membership meetings throughout the State of Illinois, and assist with activities that advance the financial literacy effort on behalf of all partners.

Research Committee 
The Research Committee analyzes and catalogs data, content and organizations related to youth financial literacy and financial and economics education. These data, materials and perspectives can enhance the efficacy of practitioners, inform stakeholders, support advocacy efforts, and guide the selection of annual ILJC themes. 

The objectives of the Research Committee:

  • To collect and assess research studies related to financial literacy
  • To identify and evaluate organizations working in this field
  • To evaluate educational tools and content with respect to their comportment with established standards
  • To maintain a database of high-quality local and national resources

Sponsorship Committee 
The Sponsorship Committee has primary responsibility for sponsor recruitment, retention, engagement, and recognition. The committee's objectives are to expand sponsorship and establish ILJC as a "must-support" organization for companies interested in financial literacy.

Technology Committee 
The Technology Committee provides technology enablement for Illinois Jump$tart. This includes, but is not limited to website development, social media, electronic communications and data analysis capabilities.

The objectives of the Technology Committee:

  • To create greater awareness of Illinois Jump$tart through the Internet, social media and electronic communications
  • To provide technical support to the Illinois Jump$tart committees 
  • To team with National Jump$tart to deliver high quality technical solutions for Illinois Jump$tart
