iOme 2012-2013 Challenge Teach Children to Save - iOme originated from the premise that as an individual, I OWE ME a great future, hence the name “iOme.” And that as a [Millennial] generation, WE OWE ourselves a great future for our world, hence “weOus.”

The 2012-2013 iOme Challenge consists of two components; an essay and a video that illustrates the key elements of the essay. We would encourage students to form teams with individuals some of whom have policy expertise and some others with video production skills. Team members can come from different educational institutions. Each team of students must have a faculty advisor. The deadlines are:

  • Essay: October 31, 2012 (Midnight – CST)
  • Video: November 21, 2012 (Midnight – CST)

The top prize is $10,000 to the winning student team and $2,000 to that team’s faculty advisor. The winning team MAY also be invited to Washington, D.C. to present their entry to Members of Congress, policymakers and other notables interested in this policy issue. There will also be honorable mention prizes of $2,500 for teams and their faculty advisors ($2,000 for teams, $500 for faculty advisors.). For more details, visit www.iomechallenge.org.

Illinois Personal Finance Challenge (IPFC) & Illinois Economics Challenge (ILEC) are student competitions available to high school teachers throughout the state. Both competitions are free of cost with the first level of competition taking place online – truly making them available to all students (working in teams) regardless of location. Both programs offer advanced levels of competition for those student teams that qualify. Both programs provide resources to guide teachers through participation as well as support the teachers in the classroom. Awards are provided.

Teachers may register through February 15! For details on the programs and to view testimonial videos, visit the webpages:
