Partner Spotlight – InVEST

InVEST, a Greater Washington Jump$tart Partner, provides free resources to high schools and colleges to implement insurance education and insurance career training. Marcelina Pascual, the 2012 GWJ$ scholarship winner, implements the InVEST program in her adult education class at Theodore Roosevelt High School to prepare them to take their insurance license exam in the District to become insurance agents.

With the help of local insurance volunteers, Pascual’s adult education InVEST program begins on January 30th and continues until the end of March. Each week, a different insurance volunteer meets with the students to discuss various topics, including insurance licensing, marketing and selling insurance, careers in insurance, automobile insurance, homeowners insurance, life and health insurance and information on pre-licensing. The guest speakers, paired with Pascual’s classroom discussions using the free InVEST textbooks, online games and insurance rating software, prepare students to not only understand insurance as a consumer but also prepare them to take their insurance licensing exam.

In addition to the classroom materials and guest speakers, InVEST also offers scholarships to graduates of their program to use for either college education or costs associated with obtaining their insurance licensing. After students have completed Pascual’s program, they may apply for the scholarship and further their chances of landing a successful career.
