Welcome to the Virginia Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy
Named the 2008 State Coalition of Year, the Virginia Jump$tart Coalition is a nonprofit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to improving the financial literacy of Virginians.
Virginia Jump$tart Coalition Meeting
The Virginia Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy will meet on Tuesday January 31, from 2:30-4:30 at the Virginia Society of CPAs (4309 Cox Road, Glen Allen, VA 23060).
Come hear what the Coalition has planned for 2012 and learn about how you can get involved. In addition, you’ll get an update on the status of the new course requirement in Economics and Personal Finance and learn about financial therapy-a relatively new area that considers the emotional and behavioral components of financial decision making. Virginia Jump$tart is a volunteer-driven nonprofit and its only through a strong, flourishing membership and our continued collaboration that we can succeed in meeting our goals, which include:
- Public Awareness: Build awareness of and promote support for the need for personal finance education. Continually assess the level of financial literacy in Virginia using available surveys and testing of student performance.
- Education & Outreach: Develop and maintain a clearinghouse of personal financial resources, and statewide bureau of contacts. Provide education, training and information on personal financial literacy, including the annual Virginia Financial Literacy Summit.
- Government Affairs: Serve as a resource for the state legislature and regulators to assess effectiveness of pertinent legislation. Advocate for personal finance education in Virginia schools.

Do you need a guest speaker to present financial literacy topics such as investing, saving, financing, or insurance? Virginia Jump$tart's Speakers Bureau is a network of volunteers in Virginia who wish to promote personal financial literacy within Virginia school systems and communities. Jump Start members offer their knowledge and expertise to guest speak on a variety of topics. Volunteers are listed according to topic, regions of Virginia, and company name. To request a guest speaker use the contact information. Each volunteer of Jump$tart's Speakers Bureau taps his/her unique talents to educate individuals about, advocate for, and grow support for personal financial literacy. Click here to learn more.
