WHAT WE DO:
The Internal Revenue Service, Wage and Investment Division assists our customers in satisfying their tax responsibilities by building and maintaining partnerships with key stakeholders, seeking to create and share value by informing, educating, and communicating with our shared customers.
WHAT WE OFFER:
We offer a variety of programs to help educate the public about our tax system and its essential role in the governmental process.
• Our free curriculum, “Understanding Taxes” makes real world connections to classroom instruction. It is a great resource for high schools, colleges and the general public for learning more about the history, theory and application of taxes in the United States. To access Understanding Taxes the website is www.irs.gov.
• Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is a national program that provides free tax assistance to low income, elderly, limited English proficient and disabled individuals who require assistance in preparing their tax returns and cannot afford the services of a paid professional.
WHAT WE NEED:
• We need to partner with educational organizations, private industry and government agencies that share similar goals of providing young people with the knowledge and experience to become successful adults.
• We need volunteers who want to provide a much needed service of tax preparation to their local communities. The very nature of the tax law is an obstacle that discourages or frustrates the customer’s efforts to complete their own returns. Their goals would be to assist underserved areas by providing services that can promote self sufficiency, encourage work ethic to generate revenue that can be put back into struggling economies.
Community based partnerships that focus on providing low income families with financial literacy programs and asset building opportunities that will promote self sufficiency.
