WHO WE ARE
The Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection, formerly referred to as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau or CFPB, is a 21st century agency that helps consumer finance markets work by regularly identifying and addressing outdated, unnecessary, or unduly burdensome regulations; by making rules more effective; by consistently enforcing federal consumer financial law; and by empowering consumers to take more control over their economic lives.
The Bureau has a longstanding commitment to help teachers with personal finance education. Every day, teachers bring lessons to life through their teaching techniques and strategies for reaching students. To help teachers with personal finance education, the Bureau has released a series of practical guides, covering the three building blocks that influence the development of lifelong money skills. The guides give hands-on tips for teaching specific concepts at the ideal ages for learning them. Using these teaching techniques and learning strategies, students can emerge from the classroom better prepared for the lifelong learning that can ultimately create adults with financial well-being. Find these guides and many other tools and resources at the Youth Financial Education page.
Curriculum Review Tool (Coming soon): We have heard from teachers, educators, and curriculum specialists that they need help vetting financial education resources to find the classroom materials that fit their situations and their students. Because teachers often have limited time and juggle many priorities, the Bureau is developing a Curriculum Review Tool to help them review and compare curricula. The tool will allow educators to conduct an even-handed evaluation of financial education curricula in four areas: content, utility, quality, and efficacy. Online and interactive, the tool will reduce the hassle of comparing multiple sets of information.
