The National Credit Union Administration is the independent federal agency created by the U.S. Congress to regulate, charter and supervise federal credit unions. With the backing of the full faith and credit of the United States, the NCUA operates and manages the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund, insuring the deposits of account holders in all federal credit unions and the overwhelming majority of state-chartered credit unions.

MyCreditUnion.gov is our official consumer financial protection website. This consumer website contains a variety of educational information on personal finance topics to help consumers make smarter financial decisions.
UPDATE! A MyCreditUnion.gov was redesigned and released in early 2019. New features include a mobile-first design, new menu options, and better search function. The website helps consumers easily find popular content, applications, learning tools, and resources. Enhancements to MyCreditUnion.gov include:
- A redesigned homepage with shortcuts linking users to frequently accessed information;
- A new, interactive “Find an Answer” tool on the homepage that allows consumers to research their own consumer financial protection questions;
- Updated consumer financial protection information, including an expanded glossary of consumer financial protection and personal finance terms; and
- An interactive calendar of financial literacy events and initiatives for consumers and credit unions.
Examples of personal financial topics covered on MyCreditUnion.gov include: how to start saving for financial goals, understanding how to manage credit, tips on how to read financial disclosures, easy fraud prevention techniques and learning the difference between credit unions and banks. Activities and Apps
- “World of Cents” – is a fun and engaging game designed to help teach children ages 5 to 10 the value of money. While building their own magical world full of whimsical playhouses, children learn the concepts of earning, saving, and spending money. The game touches on important building blocks for making smart financial decisions such as math skills, good savings habits, and financial literacy. Users even have the option of viewing their world in 4D. The game is available in the App Store and Google Play.
- “Hit the Road” – is a fun and interactive game developed for teaching young people ages 10 to 15 money management skills in the classroom and at home. “Hit the Road” takes students on a virtual road trip where they encounter challenges and learn how to save and spend money wisely along the way.
- Empowering Youth to Save – this infographic provides young people, educators, parents, and caregivers with valuable information about starting good personal finance habits in early childhood. This factor can lead to long-term personal financial success. The infographic also includes links to resources from the NCUA and other federal agencies that help support youth savings habits.
- What is a Credit Union? – this infographic provides an easy and interactive way for people of all ages to understand how and why credit unions operate as member-owned, not-for-profit, financial cooperatives. The infographic also highlights the differences between credit unions and banks.
- NCUA Consumer Reports – is a video series designed to engage and empower consumers to make better financial decisions. Topics include understanding payday loans, how to avoid frauds and scams, and how savings are federally insured. The videos are available through MyCreditUnion.gov and the NCUA’s official YouTube channel.
- @MyCUgov – is the NCUA’s official consumer Twitter feed. It features daily personal finance information designed to help individuals make better choices with their money.
Under the Federal Credit Union Act, promoting financial literacy is a core credit union mission. As credit unions serve the needs of their members and promote financial literacy within the communities they serve, the NCUA works to reinforce credit union efforts, raise consumer awareness and increase access to credit union services. The NCUA also participates in national financial literacy initiatives, including the Financial Literacy and Education Commission, an interagency group created by Congress to improve the nation’s financial literacy and education.
To promote the financial well-being of credit union members and consumers nationwide, the NCUA encourages credit unions, their member-owners, consumers, educators, non-profits, local governments and others to share and use its free financial literacy resources available on MyCreditUnion.gov.
