The Global Financial Literacy Excellence Center (GFLEC) envisions a world in which individuals have the financial knowledge they need to fully participate in the economy and build secure futures. In working toward that vision, GFLEC has positioned itself as the world’s leading incubator for financial literacy research, policy, and solutions. GFLEC launched in 2011 at the George Washington University School of Business in Washington, D.C.
Since then, it has pioneered breakthrough tools to measure financial literacy, developed and advised on educational programs, and crafted policy guidelines aimed at advancing financial knowledge in the United States and around the globe.
PwC is one of the largest professional services firm in the United States and has worked with GFLEC on a number of projects to fulfill the vision of a financially literate world. Most recently, GFLEC and PwC US have collaborated on the launch of Fast Lane.

There’s ample evidence that recent graduates are feeling the effects of a lack of financial education in the high school curriculum. It’s our duty to prepare the next generation of Americans for a brighter financial future. So, in March 2019 GFLEC and PwC US launched Fast Lane to help us work together to make financial literacy in high schools the new norm!
Fast Lane is a free, easy-to-use website with customized resources that can help anyone promote school-based financial education. Rooted in rigorous research and tested for success, Fast Lane’s materials provide strategies and resources all in one place.
The site is organized into four specialized content areas with unique content devoted to teachers, school administrators, policymakers, parents, community members, and students.
- Learn: From steering teachers toward effective curriculum to explaining why financial IQ matters, Fast Lane’s road maps guide teachers to make the best choices for their classroom
- Advocate: Teachers can push for effective high school education in all kinds of ways, no matter their experience level. Fast Lane’s requirement checklist, advocacy manual, and six essential elements for a high school financial education program are great starting points.
- Educate: Fast Lane offers teachers curriculum and evaluation toolkits, with information on important topics to cover, how to maximize instruction time, and how to find teacher training resources. Teachers can check student progress with a step-by-step evaluation toolkit that gauges program value, too.
- Connect: Fast Lane’s forum shines a light on the value of community in meeting high school financial literacy goals. Connect with other teachers to share experiences. Get all education stakeholders to join the conversation.
Practical lesson planning and shareable, research-backed articles that help teachers help teens think critically and responsibly about making smart money choices: this is Fast Lane.
