A conversation with Robert Culpepper III, Co-Founder, LaFa Publishing LLC
So tell us, what’s new at LaFa Publishing…and with Bonnie Savs-A-Lot?
LaFa Publishing is in its infancy as an organization, but our impact has been mighty! Most recently, we’ve been able to partner with two large school districts along with several other smaller school districts and Head Start programs! We are also part of the most recent cohort of National Partners for Jump$tart Coalition!
What’s the impact this has had/or you hope it will have on moving financial literacy forward?
We’ve noticed a gap when it comes to early childhood financial literacy. We see a lot of states implementing graduation requirements around personal finance, but there is a drastic drop-off from high school to elementary. Our approach is, let’s treat financial literacy like a foreign language. We know that the earlier you can introduce Spanish, German, Mandarin, etc.., the more likelihood there is for long term fluency. This will impact a generation that will be able to make better decisions without hopefully some of the trials and tribulations that we suffered as teens and young adults.
How do we learn more?
You can find our website at www.bonniesavesalot.com and we’re on most social media platforms @BonnieSavesALot. Stop by and give us a Follow and a Like!
What else are you working on?
We are currently looking for more school districts and Head Start programs to partner with, while also preparing book two in the Bonnie Saves-A-Lot Series. We will be hosting a session at the Jump$tart National Educators Conference in Arizona and will be attending NAEYC Annual Conference in November.
Tell us more about your organization
LaFa Publishing is an independent media company bringing transcendent stories and characters highlighting historically underrepresented communities. The organization’s first project, The Adventures of Bonnie Saves-A-Lot, is a Financial Literacy focused children’s book series. Each book in the series will focus on a financial concept, giving young children a head start in financial education.
