Jump$tart Coalition to Honor Idaho Affiliate as State Coalition of the Year
The Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy today announced it will honor its state affiliate, the Idaho Financial Literacy Coalition (IFLC), as State Coalition of the Year on April 5, at the Jump$tart Coalition Annual Awards Dinner.
The dinner, which recognizes accomplishments of individuals and organizations that are working to create a financially literate future, takes place at the Renaissance Washington, D.C., Downtown Hotel and is a central event during the organization’s Financial Literacy Month (#FLM2017) celebrations.
IFLC President Melissa Schug will be on hand to accept the award, which recognizes the affiliate’s effectiveness and innovation at the state level in reaching, supporting and assisting teachers; its public awareness activities; the level of participation and collaboration within the coalition itself and other achievements over the past year.
“The Idaho Financial Literacy Coalition has been an exemplary leader in the financial literacy effort for the past two decades and we’re delighted to have this opportunity to recognize the coalition’s accomplishments, collective commitment, and creative approach,” said Laura Levine, president and CEO of the national Jump$tart Coalition. “IFLC is a wonderful and fitting representative of our network of independent, volunteer-operated state coalitions.”
The Idaho coalition has 40 active partners that helped it reach more than 15,000 individuals with financial education and information. When the work of the coalition and its partners is taken into account collectively they reach nearly 500,000 individuals – about one-third of the state’s population (1.6 million).
To advance financial literacy and awareness in Idaho, the coalition:
- Held its 6th Annual Piggy Bank Beauty Contest
- Participated in 72 conferences
- Supported a 2016 Financial Economic Summit
- Sponsored the Caldwell Saves Program
- Participated in Financial Literacy Day at the Legislature
All of these events were made possible by approximately 86,000 volunteer hours.
“For 21 years, our organization has supported financial literacy through seminars, sponsorships, events and working with local partners,” said Schug. “It is an honor to be recognized with this prestigious award. It underscores all the hard work that our board, partners and volunteers have put into creating a financially literate future for Idaho.”
State Coalition of the Year Award
Jump$tart’s State Coalition of the Year Award was first suggested by Dr. Lew Mandell, one of the Jump$tart Coalitions founding board members, and was introduced by Jump$tart in 2005. While one coalition is recognized, the award is an important recognition of the collective achievements of Jump$tart’s network of 51 affiliated state coalitions. Recent past winners were:
- 2016 – Connecticut Jump$tart Coalition
- 2015 – Montana Financial Education Coalition
- 2014 – Maine Jump$tart Coalition
- 2013 – Colorado Jump$tart Coalition
- 2012 – Jump$tart Washington
- 2011 – Iowa Jump$tart Coalition
The Jump$tart Coalition is a Washington, DC-based nonprofit organization that seeks to improve the personal financial literacy of students in pre-kindergarten through college. Jump$tart’s nearly 150 national partners and 51 affiliated state coalitions work individually and collectively to educate and prepare our nation’s youth for life-long financial success. Jump$tart is the original promoter of April as Financial Literacy Month and publisher of the National Standards in K-12 Personal Finance Education.
