Variny Yim Lomax is Director of Partner and Affiliate Relations for the National Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy. She joined Jump$tart in 2007, serving as Regional Director of Western States for 13 years. Variny is an independent consultant specializing in communications, coalition-building, and strategic partnerships.
Previously, Variny worked as a financial literacy trainer for Visa, Inc.; blogger for the Money Wise Women forum on Forbes.com; and communications consultant for the national PBS show MoneyTrack. Variny was also director of the American Savings Education Council (ASEC) coalition, a financial education program of the nonprofit, Washington, D.C.-based Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI).
Variny began her career as a print and broadcast journalist at USA WEEKEND Magazine, USA TODAY, and NBC. Later, she did public relations for high-profile companies such as Maxis/Electronic Arts, Starbucks Coffee Company, 24 Hour Fitness, Kodak.com, and Monsanto.
Born in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Variny currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area. She double-majored in Political Science and French at Wellesley College. Variny also collaborated on a personal finance book with Jessica Blatt Press called, The Teen Girl’s Gotta-Have-It-Guide to Money, and wrote a novel called, The Immigrant Princess.
