Jump$tart’s Teen Teach-In events, held every April and October, are a fun and innovative way to highlight the importance of effective financial education. These events empower high school students studying personal finance to become “teachers for a day” as they conduct a financial lesson for their younger student counterparts at local elementary schools. This unique peer-to-peer model benefits everyone involved: the high school students cement their knowledge as they develop and practice their lesson plans; the elementary students get an engaging introduction to personal finance from “the big kids”; elementary school teachers learn about the resources and support that can help them incorporate personal finance into their lessons; the broader community learns about the importance of financial education through the accompanying earned and social media campaigns; and high school educators often get some well-deserved recognition from their schools and communities for the excellent work they are doing to advance financial literacy!
